This Old Gal…
Suggested we walk to the Fourth of July fireworks display…the River out of its banks…the parking lot flooded…picturing the fourth in Old Town…figured the place would be packed…parking limited…didn’t want to have to navigate the crowds… This husband of mine…a more willing partner than expected…cheerfully starting off…on the mile and a half walk…which seemed fun at first…chatting away…excited…energized…but reality set in…about a half mile in…it was warm…it was late…and it seemed so much farther…than anticipated… Made a game of it…laughing…pointing out parking spots…3 blocks away…two blocks away…just below the hill…before the River…laughed even more…as ominous storm clouds filled the sky…one weary traveler anticipating a crowd…but not the possibility of getting drenched… And so it is…in life…you live and learn…and sometimes…you get lucky…and the storm holds off…until after…the brisk…and seemingly very long…walk home… And this husband of mine…agrees…
