You Just Never Know

This old gal…

Rarely uses real names when telling stories…but this time decided these two friends from the past deserved some recognition…

A dear old couple…or seemed old at the time…teenage me knew them from high school…they both custodians at the building…knew them from church too…they attending frequently…

He quiet, mild mannered, wore a brown suit and played the accordion…she the opposite…not as quiet…a little feisty…could talk your leg off…

But they were sweet…and kind…and unique…and their name was Goos…Fred and Dorothy Goos…aptly known to us high school kids as the Geese…

Ran into her once at the store…standing in front of the cottage cheese section…asked her how she was and expecting the typical, “I’m fine, how are you?”, got something else…something more…an in depth description of many physical ailments…

Which was fine…shopping me was happy to listen…sympathize…commiserate…but walking away fifteen minutes later vowed to never Goos someone in such a manner…

And here we are 40 years later old gal me walking the neighborhood runs into a friend coming from the library…

We chatted a bit about this and that…the weather…allergies…good books to read…and then she did it…she asked the question…the how are you question…and one of us, sad to say, Goosed her…

Going on and on…blah blah this…blah blah that about her aching back…it still concerning causing all kinds of crazy fears to wallow around in that empty head of hers…

But get this…this friend…this beautiful friend is a massage therapist…and a teacher…lots of experience…lots of knowledge…and right there on the sidewalk taught Goosing me some exercises to target the area…and not kidding…it seems to be helping…

And so it is…in life…once in awhile…a very rare while…it’s ok to Goos someone…because that someone…might have been sent by Someone else…who just so happens…to hear your prayers…
