This old gal…
Had a comment…from a high school friend…on one of the ramblings about that mother of mine…she mentioned good things she remembered about her…during our school years…and there were good things…she and her friend Judy…were a dynamic duo…led Brownies…then Girl Scouts…then 4-H…they were organized…professional…got things done… That mother of mine…was a nurse…kind to patients…cared about the elderly…was a seamstress…could sew or alter anything…absolutely anything…attended all school activities…cheering us on…chatting with others…laughing with those friends of mine… That dreadful day…a memory highlighted in the comments…junior high me…played the role of Bilbo Baggins…in the play The Hobbit…that mother of mine…Kodak camera in hand…backing up…trying to get the entire cast in a group photo…goes one step too far…plummeting many feet…from stage to floor… It had to hurt…really really hurt…it hurt to watch…but up she popped…camera over her head…smile on her face…and says…I got it… The life…of young me…is like one of those pumpkin cake rolls…thin layers of sweet cream cheese frosting…swirling around chunks of spicy other stuff…overwhelming spicy other stuff… But today…this old gal…will celebrate the frosting…appreciate that it was there…to take the edge off that spice…and say thank you…for showing young me…that sometimes…if you take a wrong step…you have the power…to get back up…and say…I got this… And this husband of mine…agrees…
