This old gal…
Had a marble jar in her classroom…was a reading intervention specialist…saw many small groups of little readers…throughout the day…at the end of each class…a student could put a marble in the marble jar…if they were a super worker that day…which of course…they always were… Those marbles…were an amazing incentive…and a great tool for transition…a little round glass ball…each day…saying job well done…little reader…job well done…each child working with the others…to celebrate diligence…and progress…and fill that jar…to earn one class period…of fun… Those pretty tokens now…fill a vintage jar found at a garage sale…and take up space…in the front room…but something today…drew this old gal…to that wannabe trendy decor…the sun…shining just so…hitting those glass balls…just so…making the piece glow… As if those special marbles of mine…resonated with the memory…of the joy and excitement…of those hundreds of little readers…who never gave up…worked with a smile…and left the room knowing…they were special…because they got to put a marble…in the marble jar… And I bet those little readers…would agree…
