This husband of mine…
Wanted to make a pie…haven’t made a pie in years…like a gazillion years…like before those daughters of mine were born years…went to the store for ingredients…pictured us making that pie together…like our baking dates before we were married…but no…that’s not exactly how it transpired… Once the ingredients were gathered…baking me…was apparently on her own…but it wasn’t long before she realized…on her own…didn’t mean she was alone…others emerged to help… That favorite baker and cook of all time…sharing her recipes…bringing memories of happy days eating apple pie…and all her other culinary masterpieces……that daughter of mine…the FCS expert…there as the Crisco is blended with the flour…using the pastry blender she insisted…her mama have… Those years of mother daughter tutorials…little me standing on a chair near the counter…learning tips and hints…blend til pea size…roll like this…trim like this…pinch…like…this...That Czech grandmother of mine…always cooking…always baking…letting little me roll and cut the extra pastry with a thimble…then eat the mini baked goodies…topped…with jelly… And so it is in life…sometimes…we feel alone…inadequate…challenged by a task…but there is always…someone there…in the back of your mind…to lend a hand…a teacher…a mentor…a parent…a grandparent…open your heart…and hear them…feel them… They will be there… And this husband of mine…agrees…
