This husband of mine…
Before he became this husband of mine, had a bucket list—a short bucket list, but a bucket list nonetheless…go to Mall of America…fly to Las Vegas and buy a green birthstone ring… The Mall of America, an easy drive, a weekend stay…Las Vegas, an old people honeymoon at the Flamingo Hilton…that birthstone ring, a gift for his 70th birthday… And that was that…bucket list filled…but it’s funny about that bucket…no matter how full it is…there’s always room for one thing more…one thing that has become the bane of an old gal’s existence… A thing she calls ‘The Hunt’ like ‘The Hunt for Red October’ only this time it’s ’The Hunt for the Fried Chicken Leg’…the fried chicken leg from the past…the fried chicken leg he used to eat back in the 1960s… The fried chicken leg that does not exist anymore…too big, too tough, too full of steroids, too salty, too much breading, too frustrating, too futile, too bad so sad… So many eateries…so many versions…sometimes it’s eaten…sometimes just picked at…but all times the comment is the same… “They just don’t make fried chicken like they used to.” What’s a man to do? Make it at home himself…until the chicken at the grocery was too big…looked too tough…didn’t cut the mustard… And so it is…in life…sometimes you just have to accept defeat and go with the next best thing…where the food is a whopper and they treat you like a king… And that chicken loving man of mine…agrees…
