Old Man Wrigley…
Pops up on the Facebook feed every day…that post from two years ago right there at the top of the Retirement Ramblings page… Not sure why the algorithm chose that post to highlight…maybe because it got more reactions than normal…maybe because the photos are cute…or maybe even computers who make decisions about stuff like that could tell how much that neighbor cat of ours was loved… And he was…so loved…so very loved…the first cat this old gal really got to know…the first cat to charm his way into a former dog mom’s heart…the first cat to say good-bye… Got a package in the mail…a birthday surprise from that family of ours…those grandkids…their mother and dad…opened it up and what to my wondering eyes should I see… Wrigley…a little stuffed Wrigley…blue eyes, just like Wrigley…soft fur, just like Wrigley…wonky whiskers…just like Wrigley… And couldn’t help but laugh because sharing that box with our new cat friend were all things this birthday gal loves…lip balm…Mary Engebreit…and a kitty cat Squishmallow… And so it is…in life…what would we do without our people?..those people who really know us…really get us…and also get those people around us… Like that step-daughter of mine…who cleverly sent this little box of goodies…most likely including that Squishie prop pillow to replace the one that some man we both know decided he would use because that same man we both know didn’t think he needed to bring his own… It’s people like that…those people…what would we ever do without them?… And this husband of mine…agrees…
