This old gal…

Has discovered…the chicken tortilla soup…always the go to when visiting a Mexican restaurant…no recipe quite the same…some have veggies…some don’t…some serve rice…some don’t…some have lots of cheese…some…sadly…don’t…

But this bowl…had a different look…had something new…unexpected…atypical…mingling around there with Mr. Avocado and Mr. Blobby Cheese…were tasty little yellow slicks…of chicken fat…reminding this old gal…of the chicken soup…that grandma of hers always made…those memorable meals…old fashioned wieners…Jaternice…blood sausage…

Kolaches and ice cream sundaes…barbecued chicken with a secret butter sauce…and Grandma’s homemade…chicken rice soup…boil a chicken…add rice…season with garlic salt and fresh parsley…the secret…she once told little me…to making a delicious soup…was using…an old hen…

An old hen…making the ultimate sacrifice…for hungry little us…a little disconcerting…at the time…but…
just goes to show…us old hens…have our worth…deserve celebrating…cuz you just never know…what we…can bring…to the table…

Maybe it’s a little chicken soup…for the soul…
