That youngest daughter of mine…
Brought a college friend home for the weekend…lived in the old pink 70’s split level at the time…she walked in and right off said, “Your decorating style is so eclectic.” Had to look it up…wasn’t sure what eclectic meant…the family heirlooms?…cheap Target shelves?…the festive Mexican accents?…hideous man-chair?… Kind of more like a mish-mash…hodge-podge…can’t-throw-anything-away-collection-of-stuff…but eclectic is good…we’ll go with eclectic… And looking back, it was probably the table that did it…that puzzle table…that puzzle table with six chairs that sat randomly in the middle of the front room… That grandmother of mine always had a puzzle going, sitting on a card table in front of the TV…wanted to do the same but with a table…a little puzzle table… And found it online…an artist, downsizing, was selling her table—her unique, quirky table—and it was perfect…absolutely perfect for puzzle-doing me… Went to pick it up…that daughter of mine along to help…planned to put the thing in the back of a van… But it wouldn’t fit…of course it wouldn’t fit…one of us didn’t think to measure…one of us didn’t think about taking it apart…one of us didn’t think to bring tools…one of us didn’t think at all… But bumblers-us…somehow made it work… And so it is…in life…think ahead…or you might just find yourself…(wait for it)…puzzled…. And that daughter of mine…agrees…
