This husband and I…
Feeling ok with the Pumpkin situation…seeing him on the porch…fraternizing with his kitty friends…know that he’s fed each day…has a barn to go in when it gets cold… Until two days before departure…the house deep cleaned…totes packed with supplies…the route carefully planned…Pumpkin changes things up a bit… Becomes a cuddler…spends the night two nights in a row and stops eating…for us at least…not even drawn in by the white fish and shrimp… Made it harder to say goodbye…leaving before dawn…Pumpkin heading out that morning to do whatever it is cats do in the morning… And the journey began…that husband of mine behind the wheel…his copilot panic texting… Instructions to the neighbor girl…if Pumpkin’s sick we’ll pay for the vet… Those daughters of mine…all kinds of frantic things…teetering on hysteria about leaving…Do you think…came the words of mama me…if it weren’t for Pumpkin I wouldn’t be so sad about leaving?.. And the response that came hit home…made an old gal smile warmed by the fact at how well those daughters of mine know their mother… TBH…came the reply…if it isn’t Pumpkin…there will always be a cat you’re in love with that will be hard to leave…That’s just in your nature… And so it is…in life…There will always be another cat…another bird or squirrel or groundhog under the porch…there will always be something…or someone to love… And when you love…it’s hard to leave… And that new friend of ours waiting there in Texas…agrees….
