The drive to Texas this year…
Was easy peasy lemon squeezy…five trips down now…always learn from the year before… Not cut out for big city traffic…take the side roads…the back roads…the roads less travelled roads… Avoid the Iowa blizzard…leave before Thanksgiving…beat the blowing snow and ice covered roads… Have a trusted route…know where to stop for breakfast…how far to go the first day…where to stop for gas… Drive it in three days and two nights…get to the hotel before rush hour…before dark…but where to stay that second night keeps throwing us a curveball… Last year didn’t go far enough…nice hotel but got there just after lunch…decided to go farther this time…2 1/2 hours farther…get there before 4…easy enough… But forgot to do one thing… Consult the knees…and the back…and the hips…and the toe pushing the foot feed…an hour and a half to go one of us made an observation… Omg!!..said driver me…my knee is killing me…and that man of mine in the passenger seat started laughing…mine too!..he said…and my hip…and my back…I didn’t want to say anything but… And so we laughed…at getting old…at arthritis…at stopping next year at the town an hour back while one of us continued to drive 75 in the 75…zipping in zipping out…because she just wanted to get there… But never fear…speedster her handled things like a pro…because she’d been down this road before…more than once…and you know what they say…practice…makes perfect… And this drive…was almost that… And that husband of mine…agrees…
