That grandfather of mine…
Gifting those mouse figurines to hospitalized little me…spearheaded…a fifty year run…of mouse collecting fun…anything mouse…became the go to gift…for little me…teenage me…college me…grown up me…need a souvenir…find a mouse…jewelry mouse…stationery mouse…holiday mouse…well…you get the drift… Candle snuffer…earrings…beanbags…music boxes…ornaments…acorn…corn husk…nuts and bolts…teeny tiny…big and bulky…German crystal…big fat rubber rat…you name it…it could be found…as a mouse…young me…delighted in the search…those family and friends of mine…delighted…as well… At one time…topped off the count…at over 400…most had been gifts…decided to document each one…what it looked like…where it came from…who it came from…what year…acquired…those 400 trinkets…now reduced to a tote…some breaking…disintegrating…parted with larger ones…less meaningful ones…sold the Franklin Mint collection…when downsizing… It’s been a journey…a memorable…lifelong journey…and just know…if ever you gifted a mouse…to one of the me’s…back in the day…you are immortalized…in the makeshift Rolodex…that mouse you found…forever remembered…the friendship we had…forever…treasured… And those who remember those mouse collecting days…most likely…agree…
