This old gal…
Was blabbing away…pushing the grocery cart…asking that husband of hers…why one jug of water…cost more than another…only to realize…he wasn’t there… Glanced around…to see this usually shy guy…smiling…laughing…chatting away…with a gentleman in the paper aisle…the discussion such…that it was wondered…if they knew each other…but no…it was that hat…this shopper…noticing the hawk on the front…and just like that…a new friend was found… He grew up in Sioux City…has been in the service for years…is stationed here…bought a house here…loves the warm weather…his daughter lives in South Dakota…she and his granddaughter…getting to enjoy some fun snow scooping…teasing him…for his luck…in avoiding…the cold… We share our names…our stories…he shakes our hand with a…wow…it was great meeting you…it was so nice that…for these few minutes…it felt like…I was home again… Here he was…that husband of mine…fine with being in the background…holding back out of the flow…suddenly being the one…to warm a heart…make a friend…make someone…feel at home… All because of…that hat… And this husband of mine…agrees…
