This old gal…

Loves college towns…they all have that college town feel…you know…ventured up to San Marcos…home of Texas State University…see where it fit in the old gal college town ratings…and was not…disappointed…

Beautiful town square…stunning courthouse…toured the LBJ museum…in honor of the former President…who’s young student self…had once walked those streets…checked out the Spring Lake Natural Area…admired the lovely houses in the residential historic district…ate the best hamburger ever…yes the best…ever…at JAX…

Tried to convince that husband of mine to make history…and go all the way…down kissing alley…he respectfully…declined…rounded out the visit…with a trek…to the Calaboose African American History Museum…which was closed…but all was not lost…

For just across the way…sat an historic legend…a former Baptist church…the town’s first African American church…once burned down by the KKK…now dilapidated…shuttered…vacant…eerily quiet…except…for the message…that rang out loud and clear…that message…transforming that building…into one of beauty…

Love your neighbor…as yourself…

This old gal sees you…old gray corner church…she hears your words…she embraces…your call…
