This husband of mine…
Spoils his Birthday Queen on her special day…takes her to shops and boutiques…wants her to choose some gifts she’s admired… Usually have a plan…know the day is coming…mentally file away those do-dads that have caught the eye…but this year was different… Found some socks…cute…quirky…fun…but hadn’t seen anything else until…there it was…or should we say there HE was(or HER)…sitting right there on the sock store shelf, tiny little eyes saying, “Take me home. You need me”… And the Birthday Queen DID need him…had to have him…he made her smile…he made her laugh…he made her think of all those special kitties she’s known… “Do you like cats?”, said the shop girl from the counter, adding “I love cats! I have a big orange cat. I named him Mr. Cheeto”… And so we bonded…old gal me and this sweet young lady…over cats…the love of cats…the love of big ornery orange cats… And she stood there while cat lover me blah blah blahed about Pumpkin…how she met him…how much she misses him…how she worries about him…and Shop Girl, behind the counter wearing the cute flowered sweater, smiled and just listened… A few minutes later the Birthday Queen left carrying a little cat vase in a little blue bag and Shop Girl didn’t know it but she had just given one old gal the greatest birthday gift of all… Her time… And so it is…in life…make a difference…reach out…listen to someone’s story…take a moment and be present…be A present…be THEIR present…and don’t forget to wrap it up with a smile… And this husband of mine…agrees…
