That husband and I…
Went back to that town…of the Texas Piggly Wiggly…to search…for Mrs. Carmichael… The library archives…the historical society…social media chats…drove through the town…located the lot…where Piggly…used to be… Found her obituary…located her resting place…went to visit…to say hello…to say… good-bye… Husband gone…son gone…no grandchildren…hoped to find family…someone who knew her…find a picture or two…the way he remembered her…in the 1960s… But that…remains a mystery…but not so the reason…Mrs. Carmichael…was cut off…from her little friend… Rumor has it…coming to light years later…Papo…a widowed field worker with eight children…was offered the chance to let his youngest…be adopted…by the Carmichaels… May be true…may be not…but that husband of mine…loved his Papo…loves his family…not an easy life…on his own at 12…sometimes wonders… What a Piggly Wiggly future…might have held…but then he hears…if you’d stayed in Texas…you never would have met me…and what a tragedy…that would have been… And that husband of mine…agrees…
