This old gal…
Doing a little research…a little family tree research…ironing out the Effie Elsie confusion…looking for the middle name of Emily M…realized she didn’t know much about her grandpa’s side of the family… Knew every great aunt and uncle on the side of that mother of hers…their spouses…their kids…their home towns…but this side…nothing…nada…very little… Remember asking questions like little kids do…but besides learning that his mother’s last name had been Moel…which little me thought was kind of funny…learned nothing… Until now…fifty years later…thanks to Find a Grave and some mystery person who shared sweet little stories about those unknown relatives… That grandpa of mine born to a successful farmer and landowner…had eleven brothers and sisters…only three little me ever met… Dave a successful banker…Effie the best kolache maker this side of the Atlantic…Uncle Jack who lived in a shack a stone’s throw from the river… The others…the unknown others…came alive with the words…Lottie, a wonderful mother and hard worker, had a sixteen inch waist…Irene loved to hunt and won many sharp shooting trophies… Sam had been in an accident and had scars on his face…Frank died of appendicitis at the age of 25…Charles passed of the flu epidemic when it hit Camp Dodge…James spent his life institutionalized due to a birth defect… So much stuff in those little blurbs…so many insights…so many heartaches…so many celebrations…and how thankful this old gal is to fill in those blanks… And so it is…in life…kudos to those who do the research…who delve into history and then update these sites…pondering old gals like me appreciate you… And those daughters of mine…agree… Photos by Gayle on Find A Grave.
