If It's Meant To Be - It's Meant To Be

This husband and I…

Usually end the day watching a comedy show…Seinfeld…Two and a Half Men…Everybody Loves Raymond…

Wind down…relax…have a laugh…but one certain episode hit hard…got us talking…Raymond’s mom declaring that if she dies she’s decided who her husband should marry next…

And so the show progressed…Ray and Debra each trying to pick a spouse for their spouse if they should pass…it was funny…thought provoking…and got two old folks pondering…

“Who would you pick for me?”…one of us said…”Well who would you pick for ME?…the other responded…and so it went…both of us hehe-ing and haha-ing but neither really wanting to think about someone taking their place…

Because when your marriage works…when you’re happy and have fun…you can’t picture being with someone else…you can’t picture THEM being with someone else…until…

Laundry day at the Ezy Kleen in she walks…cuter than cute…dressed to the nines…make up perfect…hair perfect…nails and eyebrows perfect…

She was gorgeous…too gorgeous for laundry day at the Ezy Kleen…we caught eyes…exchanged smiles as she loaded the washer and then she said in broken English…

“You are so pretty.”…to which she heard, “Oh my God I was just thinking the same thing about YOU!”…

And so we chatted…her name was something like Marisol…she’s worked at the school for twenty years…has kids…grandkids…a large extended family…six years to go until retirement…and…she’s single…

The exchange was delightful…SHE was delightful…introduced her to that husband of mine as we packed up to leave…he having missed the whole conversation due to the fun video game on the other side of the store…

They exchanged a few words in Spanish and then we parted with a wave…

“I choose her,” came the words as soon as we got in the car.
“What?” he said.
“I choose her, for you, when I die. She’s perfect for you.”

He shook his head and laughed…then we both laughed knowing that in a town of 116,000 people we’d never see her again…but who knows…if it’s meant to be…it’s meant to be…

And that husband of mine…humoring his wife picking wife…agreed…
