This husband and I…
Went to the farmer’s market…admired the products…crafts, baked goods, plants and produce…the colors of the wares in the sun creating a kaleidoscope of sorts… But shopping-me was on a mission…searching for one thing and one thing only—often harder to find than one would think… Radishes…fresh radishes…fresh radishes right from the ground…sweet, crisp, preferably the size of a quarter or smaller… Grew up on radishes…a bowl on every holiday table…a Tupperware filled with them always in the fridge…still love the little red things…but can’t eat one without that memory popping up…the radish memory…the radish memory from the past… Thirty years ago, teacher-me heating lunch in the microwave in the workroom, staff seated around a table eating lunch…noticed one eating from a big bowl…a BIG bowl…a BIG bowl filled with nothing but radishes…cut up radishes…eating it like it was a bowl of cereal… Had never seen anything like it…have never seen anything like it since…but kudos to that person who could make radishes a complete meal and then teach kids the rest of the day… And so it is…in life…sometimes you just have to tip your hat to an impressive feat…even if it’s thirty years later… And that husband of mine…agrees…
