Follow Those Dreams

HEB…

Was handing out samples…called it Frito pie…but what it really was…was chili cheese dip…a can of chili…Velveeta cheese…yummy goodness…with tortilla chips…

1980…college gal me…late nights with friends…chili cheese dip in the hot pot…those were the days…

Loved college…got two degrees in five years…drove home every weekend…worked Friday Saturday Sunday…hit the road at 5 am Monday morning…and once again…became college gal me…

College gal me…felt free…free from hometown drama…free from hometown expectations…free to maybe be something different…than the path already set…

Move…teach somewhere else…go to grad school in Texas….but hometown me won out…not brave enough…scared of change…went home…got married…stayed there…almost 40 more years…

And so today…we cheer on…that brave youngest daughter of mine…who has decided to go for it…change…adventure…an exciting new life…

Saying good-bye to her teaching job in Iowa…and moving to Washington DC…near that sister of hers…

Take it from this mama of yours…there’s something to be said for the grand adventure…follow those dreams…see where they take you…

And those sisters of yours…agree…
