A teacher friend of mine…
Did crosswalk duty together for years…her children grown…those daughters of mine still little…would talk about how her kids came home for Christmas…on Thanksgiving…it seemed sad at the time…young mama me all wrapped up in the busy-ness of the season…the build up to that magical day…with those little ones of hers… And here she is…this old gal…not celebrating Christmas at Thanksgiving…but making sure most holiday things are done…by then…the Christmas cookies…the pumpkin bread…the party mix...September shopping…October wrapping…November…gifts delivered or sent home before these old snowbirds…fly south…for the winter…it’s a change…to be sure…the build up to that special day…different…more simple…anticlimactic… But like that sweet friend of mine…this old gal…feels fulfilled…the joy that family of mine brought…in November…feels like more than enough…to sustain this mama’s heart…through…a quiet…old people…holiday… And this husband of mine…agrees…
