This old gal…
Had a boyfriend in high school…who for some reason…made lots of trips to the dump…can’t remember what was being dumped…but it didn’t matter…his girl always went along… Kind of made it a dump date…I guess…soda…Slim Jims…70s music…driving the back roads…this guy making me feel safe…and valued…and getting me away from that mother of mine… But the dump back then…could possibly hold lots of hidden treasures…this gal seeing those piles through different eyes…due to a story once told by that grandfather of mine…he had a wonderful talent for giving old furniture life again…beautiful pieces donned my grandparents’ home…but one always called to me… So lovely and unique…it’s story equally so…that talented woodworker…at the dump one day…spotted the base of a walnut table…rescued it from the debris…and searched and searched for the top…eventually found the heavy marble slab…lying perfect and unscathed…amongst the rubble… 70 years later…a granddaughter runs her hands over the magnificent cool marble…and marvels that someone didn’t give up the search…in the mountain of offcasts…then lovingly restored the sad and broken…making it whole again… And so it is in life…don’t give up the search…for the sad and broken…who may find themselves in the rubble…and don’t give up hope…to those who feel outcast…because Someone is out there… Searching… And this husband of mine…agrees…
