That husband of mine said…
Let’s get a pie for Thanksgiving…snack on it a few days… Thought about making one…briefly…for like one second…then went to buy one at HEB… Had quite the display…a big pie display…many kinds to choose from…walked around the table checking them all out… Couldn’t decide…asked that husband of mine…vacillated…asked him again…went back and forth…making a scene to the point of even annoying she who was shopping for pie… Finally settled on pumpkin…not the pumpkin with the cream cheese swirl…like what the heck is pumpkin with a cream cheese swirl?…but the plain pumpkin sitting next to it… Saved it until Thanksgiving Day…Old Mother Hubbard me wrapping up that makeshift feast…instant potatoes…gravy in a jar…deviled eggs from the store… Served up that delicious pumpkin pie…with a hefty dollop of cool whip on top…only it wasn’t delicious… Because it wasn’t pumpkin… It was sweet potato pie…dense…drab…not the same…not the same at all… And so it is…in life…don’t forget to read the fine print…and when that husband of yours puts down his fork and says…After all that, we got the wrong kind… You put your fork down, too…and rather humbly…have to own it… And this husband of mine…agrees…
