This grandmother of mine…
Pops into the head…every time this old gal drives by a certain sign in New Town…Gram…that mother of that mother of mine…college educated…smarter than a whip…yet quiet…reserved…kinder than kind… Loved crosswords…saltines with butter…butterscotch candies…rye toast and CNN…saw her daily…lived next door to her all my little girl life…had a story she would tell…which is always triggered by this sign…my best friend growing up…she would say…was a girl named Dorothy…Dorothy Mae Pugh…she had a brother named Richard…Richard Will… And this is where she…her eyes all a twinkle…for Pugh in Old Town was pronounced pew…would stop and say…Dorothy Mae…but Richard Will…pew…and then…she would chuckle…her old lady grandma chuckle… This joke…heard so many times…never got old…time with this wonderful woman…never got old…if we could pick one person…no longer here…to spend time with again…this old gal…would choose…her…celebrate her…make it all…about her…thank her for listening…and caring…for taking crap and staying strong…for her wisdom…and guidance…for giving and loving…and never asking anything…in return… She…is a hero…a true hero…an amazing…one of a kind…super de-duper…hero…Pew Pew…Pew Pew… And those brothers of mine…would agree…
