This husband and I…
Made friends…at our home away from home…not Mr. Cat…or the ducks…or the peeping Tom baby deer…but people friends…who actually…got to know our names… We met…under not so good circumstances…a mama deer had gotten stuck…in the slats of a fence…running from a not so friendly dog… Our friends…lived on one side of the fence…we…on the other…during the tsking and sighing and head shaking…over the sad fate of the poor doe…we realized we were both…from Iowa… Our Texas friends…from Iowa…met us for lunch the other day…warmed a booth…at that brother’s pizza place of his…for three hours… Talk was endless…we hashed over ways to drive to Texas…things to do in Texas…adventures to have in Iowa…kids…grandkids…how to carry quarters… It was like we’d been friends…forever… Not gonna lie…this old gal…was petrified of venturing south…the fear of isolation…lack of community…leaving friends and family…was real… But as we chatted…over the best pizza ever…my friend explaining how she makes angels from Texas rocks…I noticed her necklace…dainty and sparkly…in the shape of a cross…swaying against her black shirt… And it was clear…that my prayer was answered…and He’s saying…see..Old Gal…not only did you find community down south…but you found new friendships at home… I worried about one thing…He sent me a two-fer… It doesn’t get…any better than that… And this husband of mine…agrees…
