This husband and I…
Made it to the cemetery on Cemetery Lane…which apparently is actually Peace Avenue…not sure where Cemetery Lane came from…some movie perhaps… Parked under a cedar tree and started walking…he going one way…she going another, towards the oldest plots…the rusted metal fencing surrounding families…even in death they stay together… A bird follows, breaking the silence with song…a happy song…a zealous song…hopping from tree to tree following the steps of meandering me… And then, there it was, the reason this cemetery is the favorite…the thing that keeps an old gal coming back…a resting place like none she’s ever seen…a resting place where those resting…are embraced…by bluebonnets… Noticed something different this time…something new…those bluebonnets, once only in a single plot, have now spread, as bluebonnets do, to cover almost a block sized area of the cemetery… It was beautiful…it was powerful…and it made an old gal think, what if?… What if kindness was like these bluebonnets?…what if compassion was like these bluebonnets?…what if love—was like these bluebonnets?… It only takes one…and then watch it grow… Be…a bluebonnet… And this husband of mine…agrees…
