This old gal…
Ran into a friend today…at the grocery store…still picture her in middle school…but she’s all grown…with babies of her own… You didn’t see me…she says…but I was at the shop…where you were buying your mother of the bride dress…and I just want to say…it was just so cute watching your girls look for dresses for you…you all…just made me smile…it was so fun to see…the way they were searching…and talking…and laughing… Mama me was touched by the kind words…and took pause at the fact…that she doesn't think about being noticed…when in public…and felt bad…she didn’t see her… But we get in a little bubble sometimes…those little ladies and me…a throw back to the single mom days…two pre-teens…a teen…a toy poodle…coexisting in a tiny rental…816 square feet…for 7 years…on Elm Street…nonetheless… Four seats in the living room…each of us…always in the same one…eating meals on tray tables…doing homework…watching Pretty Little Liars…reading our books… Learning to share…space…the bathroom…our hopes…our fears… Nowhere to go…to hide…escape…withdraw…so we became an us…developing patience…and understanding…and getting to know each other…deep deep down… They wouldn’t change a thing…so they say…and…looking back…neither would this old mama… Even in the midst…of the occasional life nightmare…good things can happen… Even on Elm Street… And these little ladies of mine…agree…
