This old gal…
Went on an adventure…pretty much in her own back yard…dragged that husband of mine along for the fun…wanted to get to know…New Town a little bit better…checked out City Hall…beautiful building…history lined the walls…walked around reading the captions…found a photo of that tunnel that runs under the street…near Little Cottage… Headed then for the library…recently moved to a new location…a large former office building…converted for library and community use…this old gal…loves libraries…loves loves loves them…loved them as a student…loved them as a teacher…loved them…as a parent… Interesting layout…small rooms weaving here and there…adorable children’s area…cozy…colorful…lots and lots of books…the thing that struck…was the quiet…beyond library quiet…the help desks set way back from the entry…the non-personal personal checkout by the exit…this husband and I…walking room to room…not once…to be acknowledged… It felt weird…it felt sad…this old gal…didn’t…feel welcomed…no doubt people were just busy…preoccupied…but while reader me may go to the library for a book…she also…goes…for the library experience… And that was something…Old Town…did not lack…those little girls of mine…went on weekly adventures to the library…they had books at home…but this…was fun…exciting…always greeted by the staff…they chatted…interacted…shared information and knowledge…you felt welcomed…important…it made you…want to come back… So thank you…librarians from Old Town…you are appreciated…you…are treasured…you…are a library adventure legend… And I bet those daughters of mine…agree…
